Fiddler on the Roof Junior
Synopsis
Our story takes place in the small village of Anatevka, in Russia around 1905 and focuses around Tevye, a respected Jewish man and his family. Although a poor milkman, he takes care of his family, his wife Golde and their five daughters. He upholds the traditions of his faith, but times are changing. The Russian revolution is hinted at and the impact this will have on the Jewish community in Anatevka. Tevye’s daughters are old enough to marry and traditionally, a Jewish matchmaker is involved with the process of engagement and finding a good match. Golde is keen to have some of her daughters wed, but the girls themselves find their own love matches and in doing so, break with the tradition of their Father, Tevye, seeking out a suitable husband for his girls.
This is a heartwarming, family friendly and endearing musical. It holds a message that is still relevant today about the importance of faith, of family, of traditions and of community that holds fast against adversity.
